Government had come, Government had gone yet we are still suffering. So many promises ranging in our ears every now and then but only a few are fulfilled. Rating from multinational organizations lauds our economy as one of the best economies in Africa yet our pockets are dried. So, are the figures we read and hear in the news, telling the truth or all are futile. What should we give much attention to? Is it “Personal Economy” or “General Economy”? Let me share a conversation with my father that changed my thinking. On Friday, 22nd May 2020, I went home to spend the weekend with the family. Normally, on such visitation, I always engage my father so as to learn something new from him. During the conversation, I chipped in that the Government has paid both the electricity bill and water bill of the citizens for three months. My father laughed at loud and told me, “before it rains, the bathroom is always wet”. He continued to say that these things are done for political gains, not for the welfare of the citizens. And I was like what is this man talking about? We ended the conversation, I moved to my room and started to ponder on the proverb he said. So, I was lying on the couch trying to make meaning of what the old man was saying. Then I realized that my father was talking about building a strong “Personal Economy”. However, the Coronavirus pandemic has revealed that most Ghanaians are indeed suffering. Also, the lesson from the conversation with my father showed that he does not solely depend on the government to make ends meet. Therefore, is it “Personal Economy” or “General Economy? I will entreat you to build a strong “Personal Economy” cause most of the big men who have a big say in the “General Economy” have a strong “Person Economy”. You can mention as many as you and check their background. Apparently, the reason why there’s no massive impact on the “General Economy” in our lives is that most of us have weak “Personal Economy”. In fact, strong “Personal Economy” will grant you confidence, hold your respect and dignity intact, and above all help create a strong “General Economy”. I believe from now on you will start building your “Personal Economy” so as to make our “General Economy” great and resilient.
Strong “Personal Economy” is the key to a great and resilient “General Economy”.
